The meeting is to be held in the Manor Road Building of the University of Oxford (http://www.manor-road.ox.ac.uk/). Registration will be in the main foyer of this building and presentations will take place in the main lecture theatre on the first floor. There is a reception desk on the left as you go in where you can seek assistance.
The Manor Road Building is located a short walk from the centre of Oxford. It is located near the red circle on Map 1 (it is actually on the north side of Manor Road – see Map 2).
MAP 1: Approximate location of the Manor Road Building. Buses stop on the High Street near the end of Queen’s Lane. The meeting is a short walk from that bus stop. The train station is located off the map to the west (left) – see below.
MAP 2: the Manor Road Building is located on the north side of Manor Road – above the “R” of “road” in the map above.
Accommodation has been arranged in St Catherine’s College Oxford which is located at the end of Manor Road on Maps 1 and 2. There is a reception desk there which is staffed 24 hours a day. You can get your key from that reception desk on arrival. Breakfast is served in the main dining hall at St Catherine’s College.
Please do not try to pay the college directly for your accommodation. MCNEG has paid for your room already – it is hence imperative that we get in your registration fees.
Parking in Oxford presents major difficulties. There is no parking for the Manor Road Building. You are advised to travel by train or coach (see below) or to use the “Park and Ride” car parks at Thornhill (A40) or Redbridge (A34). Full day parking tickets in the centre of Oxford are very expensive. The Thornhill Park and Ride is the most convenient since the buses stop on the High Street, close to the Manor Road Building.
Although Oxford has a train station, there is no direct rail link to Heathrow Airport. There is a frequent coach service which stops on the High Street (ask for “Queen’s Lane”) which is close to St Catherine’s College and The Manor Road Building. There is also a direct coach service from Gatwick Airport which is less frequent, but which also stops on the High Street, close to the meeting venue. If you prefer to catch the train from Gatwick then you will need to catch 2 or three trains. The options are complex and can be researched here: http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/.
If you are travelling from one of the other UK airports please get in touch for advice on how to reach the meeting.
It is not a long walk from the train station to the meeting (24 minutes walk according to one website). A taxi would cost £3-4 and there are regular buses which stop on the High Street near the meeting (number 5). If you should choose to walk, this is the best route:
